What makes this course unique
Trust & Thank Allah (swt) is a 5-week project-based learning course that supports students in developing two essential foundations of faith: Tawakkul(placing trust in Allah while striving) and Shukr(gratitude expressed through action, not words alone). The course helps students move beyond abstract ideas and see how trust and gratitude shape emotional wellbeing, resilience, and everyday choices. Learning takes place through reflection, discussion, and creative application rather than lectures. Students are guided by the Qur’an and the teachings of Ahlulbayt(as), allowing them to connect deeply with Islamic concepts while developing practical life skills. The course contributes to strengthening students’ Shia Islamic identity by nurturing reliance on Allah(swt), contentment, responsibility, and awareness of blessings.
Students define Tawakkul and learn to distinguish it from passivity or inaction, understanding that true trust in Allah(swt) requires effort and responsibility.
Surah Aal-Imran (3:159)
Hikmah 82 – entrusting one’s affairs to Allah(swt)
Students explore how trusting Allah(swt) affects emotional resilience, calmness, and decision-making during uncertainty and hardship.
Surah At-Talaq (65:3)
Du‘a 7 – turning to Allah(swt) during moments of distress
Students learn that gratitude is shown through wise use of blessings and ethical action, not words alone.
Surah Ibrahim (14:7)
Hikmah 330 – not misusing Allah’s(swt) blessings
Students develop awareness of both visible and hidden blessings and reflect on how gratitude strengthens connection with Allah (swt).
Surah An-Nahl (16:18)
Du‘a 1 – recognising layers of Allah’s(swt) mercy and blessings
Students finalise their games, playtest them with peers, and refine the rules and design based on feedback. Coaches guide discussions and observe how well students apply the concepts of Tawakkul and Shukr in their game design and explanations. This week focuses on reflection, articulation of understanding, and demonstrating how trust and gratitude translate into real-life thinking and choices.
Designing a Game of Trust & Gratitude
Throughout the course, students work in small teams on a creative project with a clear mission: to design an educational game that helps others understand and reflect on Tawakkul and/or Shukr. The game may include cards, questions, scenarios, challenges, characters, or puzzles inspired by real-life situations, Qur’anic verses, or course discussions. Students collaborate to: • choose a main theme (Tawakkul, Shukr, or both) • research and brainstorm ideas from lessons and resources • design rules, structure, and gameplay • create a working prototype • test and refine the game • present and demonstrate their final game. Coaches provide guidance throughout the process and assess students’ understanding through observation, discussion, and reflection rather than formal exams. The emphasis is on depth of understanding, sincerity, teamwork, and the ability to apply Islamic values meaningfully.
